Type 2 Diabetes
Insulin resistance can occur long before the onset of type 2 diabetes
Insulin resistance is one of several conditions that together are called metabolic syndrome. Other signs of metabolic syndrome include weight around the waist, high LDL (bad) blood cholesterol levels, low HDL (good) cholesterol levels, high levels of triglycerides (another fat in the blood), and high blood pressure. Many, but not all, people with this syndrome will eventually develop diabetes. The metabolic syndrome also carries an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.
