Eczema Basics
Scratching the itch of eczema may help bring it to your skin’s surface
One of the factors that can increase the severity of an eczema outbreak is the “itch-scratch” cycle. Initially a person with eczema might just feel an itch without seeing an outbreak. When they scratch that itch on a repeated basis, it only serves to bring out the red patches. In some cases, scratching that itch will tear the skin and cause an infection. This is why, along with eczema treatments, experts sometimes use an antihistamine to decrease the itch.
